2 Kings 5 - Naaman

Lesson for Naaman

1. Read story book "Naaman and the Slave Girl" (This is a book that my mom made several years ago. She blew up a comic strip to 8x8 and mounted it into book format.)
2. Sing song about Naaman

Naaman Was Sick and Then Healed
Tune: Skip to My Lou

Naaman was the captain of the army.
He had a slave girl who loved God.
The girl was sad when Naaman got sick.
So she told him ‘bout Elisha.

Naaman was sick. What did he do?
Naaman was sick. What did he do?
Naaman was sick. What did he do?
He went to see Elisha.

Elisha told Naaman, “Wash in the Jordan.”
Elisha told Naaman, “Wash in the Jordan.”
Elisha told Naaman, “Wash in the Jordan.”
“Wash seven times in the Jordan.”

Dip, dip, dip, Naaman you.
Dip, dip, dip, Naaman you.
Dip, dip, dip, Naaman you.
Dip seven times in the Jordan.

Naaman washed in the Jordan and was healed.
Naaman washed in the Jordan and was healed.
Naaman washed in the Jordan and was healed.
He went to see Elisha!

“Now I know there is no other God.”
“Now I know there is no other God.”
“Now I know there is no other God.”
“None but the God of heaven.

Dip, dip, dip, Naaman you.
Dip, dip, dip, Naaman you.
Dip, dip, dip, Naaman you.
Dip seven times in the Jordan.

3. Discuss story
* slave's bravery to talk to master
* How can you tell other's about God, like the slave girl did?
* Specifics of instructions - did it work in any river? did it work for any number of dips in the water?
* Connect to how we follow God's instructions today - exactly how he tells us, not the way we want to
* Find Jordan River on map
* Connect that God does not always make a "production" or "show" of how he moves in people's lives. Naaman was expecting a show, but was given simple instructions.

4. Craft application
Have kids color the outside of a small styrofoam cup with blue crayons to create water.
Teacher writes "Naaman obeyed God and was healed." around the rim of cup with a Shaprie.
Kids color stick figure Naaman - one side happy face with no spots and the other side sad face with lots of red spots.
Teacher pokes hole in bottom of cup and the kids make Naaman go up and down out of the water 7 times.
Can also use this puppets as you sing the song as a review.
The cups were a hit! Look at the smile on this precious child! :)

I taught a lesson on Naaman today and used your cup idea - they loved it. I showed it to several adults, each time with the same result -jaws dropped when Naaman came out clean! How fun! Thank you so much.

Just wanted to tell you how much our children, teachers, and parents all loved this song and craft. We did it in children's church to go along w/the story from The Jesus Storybook Bible. Thank you so much for providing this and all your ideas through your blog!
