2nd Grade- June - Hide the Word - 2 Timothy 2:15 - Hammer Sequence

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15
Can you tell we love die-cut shape sequences???  Having a shape connected to the verse really helps the kids focus and remember the verse.

This is a mail-out game for June.  To make, die-cut several hammers for each child.  We used the Ellison die-cut for this sample.  Write a verse phrase on each shape.  Place in a baggie and write the verse reference on the outside of the baggie with a Sharpie. The kids then sequence the hammers in order to make the whole verse.

2nd Grade - July - 1 Peter 5:8 - lion activities

When we first started Hide the Word, we bought several die-cuts that would be useful for the program. This lion was one of them and we have gotten our money's worth out of it!!!

Game One - Write a verse phrase on each die-cut.  The kids then sequence the verse.  This option makes a great mail-out game.
Game Two - Die-cut each child one lion and tape it onto a popsicle stick.  Write the verse reference on the stick.  Give this to each child as a puppet to say the verse.  It could also be used as an over-sized bookmark.
Game Three - Die-cut each child one lion.  Have them write the verse on the lion.  Then tape the lion onto a popsicle stick.  Then they can use it as a puppet to say the verse.  Or you can leave off the stick and put magnets on the back.  Or it would be a great verse card to mail in their monthly game packages.

2nd Grade - March - James 1:22 - Wooden Block Building

"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves.  Do what it says." James 1:22

This game can be done for any verse!  Purchase 1-2 inch wooden cubes at Hobby Lobby or Michael's.  They usually have a value bag that is a little bit cheaper.  Since it takes so many blocks to make one verse, I recommend making this a game that you keep in class only.  To make, write a phrase on each of several blocks using an ultra-fine tip Sharpie.  Have the children put the blocks in order.  They can build the tower UP or build a wall sideways.  You may also number the tops or backs, so it’s a self check for them.  Have them work as a team in order to put the blocks in order.

This photo shows the blocks all mixed up!

Here is an example of building a wall...
And an example of building a tower.

Scroll

There are oodles of Bible lessons that you could use a scroll craft!  This lesson was on Josiah in Bible Power Zone this summer.  To make the scroll, cut ivory copy paper in 3.5x11 strips.  Then using bottle glue, glue on a popsicle stick to each end.  After the glue has dried, roll up the blank scroll and tie it with a piece of yarn.  In class, teach the lesson.  Then have the kids write a verse from the lesson on the scroll.  For BPZ, we had the kids write their favorite memory verse on the scroll.  It was a big hit!

Hide the Word at Home - Ring of Verses

One of our friends came up with this and we LOVED it!!!  Each month she made a label of the memory verse.  She found clip art for each verse and placed it on the label with the verse.  She found these index card rings with plastic covers for $1 at Staples!  What a bargain!!!  Each month when she mails out the game, she gives the child a new label to stick in their ring.  This is something that will grow and grow through the years!

1st grade - August - Hide the Word - Proverbs 16:18

"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall."  Proverbs 16:18
My kids LOVED these cardboard building blocks!  We had several sets and still have hours of fun building forts. etc with them.  When I read this verse and it talked about falling, I immediately thought of a tower being knocked over.  So here was the finished product from that idea!

To make, get several cardboard building blocks.  They can be pretty price-y, so look at garage sales or ask your church if anyone has a stash they are not using any more.  On the side of each block, write a word or verse phrase.   I used a regular Sharpie.  It is a little hard to read, so I wish I would have used a broad tip Marks-a-Lot instead.

In class, give each child a block or two.  Go over the verse, then have them build the tower from bottom up OR build a "wall" along the floor.

This was a game our first graders played over and over and over...

4's - Hide the Word - John 14:15 - Bingo Daubers

"If you love me, obey my commands." John 14:15

Bingo daubers are a cheap, fun, versatile product to use with pre-school and early elementary kids.  They can be purchased at teacher supply stores and dollar stores.

The sample for this craft is using an Ellison die-cut heart.  If you want it to be bigger, then use a larger heart and font.  Before class, die-cut one heart for each child.  Also type and print the words to glue on the heart.

In class, go over the memory verse.  Then give kids the daubers to "fill in" the bubble letter word.  The the kids glue the three strips in order onto the heart.  You can stick a magnet on the back or send home plain.

2 year old - October - Hide the Word - Ephesians 4:32

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32

This worksheet can be decorated with "doo-dahs." Doo-dahs include stickers, glitter stickers, crayons (colored over the large word), sticky sequins, stamps, finger prints, or bingo daubers.
These worksheets, here, have an idea for a magnet game on the first page. The second page is another worksheet for the children to color. Also, at the bottom of the page is the verse for the children to trace. The third worksheet attached is a lesson sample with questions to ask the children as you discuss the verse.

2 year old - Hide the Word - Galatians 5:13 - December

Serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13

The black line master is the second page in the file below.

Galatians 5:13 black line master

This verse discusses serving each other. The teacher prepares the tea cup and tea pot ahead of class. The teacher writes the verse on the tea "flowing" from the tea pot into the cup. The class glues the pieces onto the construction paper.
