2 year old - Matthew 28:19

Here's another verse that we don't do as part of our Hide the Word program, but it's still a good verse. (Again, aren't they all?)

Matthew 28:19: Go, therefore, and make disciples of all men.

It's a simple foot worksheet that my two year old exuberantly painted with a circular sponge. Again, not ground breaking for the pre-reader level, but the whole class had lots of fun painting with the Crayola washable paints they used in class that night.

I hope this encourages all of you to get messy with your little people. It's not so scary!

First Grade - Matthew 5:44 - November - Hide the Word

"But I say unto you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." Matthew 5:44

Here is the one page of ideas for this verse.

The clothespin game is explained with pictures here.

The shrinky dink activity is explained here. We don't (yet) have the photos of the first grade doing it, so this is an older grade's verse, but the instructions are the same, of course.

This post here is the instructions and information about the wreath activity.

See here for the one page of ideas.

See the pattern of paper dolls here, and the final product here.

Enjoy!

3 year old - Matthew 17:20 - March - Hide the Word

I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed. . . nothing will be impossible for you. Matthew 17:20

Here's a one page of list ideas for this verse.

See a picture of the send home puzzle with the verse on it here.

See a picture of the plaster plaque with a little one hand print here. You can also add a mustard seed in the palm of the painted hand for scale.

3 year old - Matthew 22:37 - January - Hide the Word

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Matthew 22:37

Here's the one page of ideas for Matthew 22:37.

See the heart magnet that we sent home with each child. So cute!

We also used the Old Testament Take Home Books that Move by Carson-Dellosa publishers. You can find that book here.

1st Grade - Hide the Word - November - Matthew 5:44 - Clothespin Game

"But I say unto you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." Matthew 5:44

This is our mail-out game for the month.  It can be used for practically any verse in the Bible!  It is also cheap and quick to make!!!  To make, gather several wooden clothespins for each child.  You need to use an ultra-fine Sharpie to write on the clothespins.  Write a verse phrase on each clothespin.
Then the kids sequence the clothespins to make the whole verse.  They can clip them onto a ruler, a wooden spoon, the edge of a folder or book.

1st Grade - November - Hide the Word - Matthew 5:44 - Wreath

"But I say unto you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.: Matthew 5:44

This is a great in-class activity to have an application lesson for this verse.  Before class, the teacher cuts out the wreath from cheap paper plates.  Also tape the yarn for the hanger.  Die-cut enough hearts (or other shape) so that each child’s wreath is full.  (For Ellison die-cut, each child gets 5 hearts.)  Write the words for the verse on one heart for each child.

In class, discuss verse and how as kids you can love your enemies.  Record their responses on a chart.  On the other 4 hearts, kids write their responses.  Glue all the hearts onto the wreath.

4th Grade - Hide the Word - December - Matthew 12:34

In class, have the kids make a woven heart pouch.  We found an excellent tutorial for making on at www.schtuffathome.blogspot.com/2012/02/woven-heart-pocket-tutorial.html   Go there to see how to make it! :)

After the kids make the pouch the meaningful fun begins.  You can do a few different things with the pouch.  In one class meeting, give each child 5 die-cut lips.  (We have the Ellison lips die-cut.)  Have them write words that should "overflow from their heart" onto each heart and place them in the heart pouch.

In another class meeting, give each child a slip of paper for each of the other kids in class.  So if you have 5 students, then the kids get 5 slips of paper.  The kids write one kind, uplifting thing about each child on a slip of paper.  Then they put the compliment in that child's heart pouch.

Triumphial Entry

We love to act out stories from the Bible!!  I could not find a stick horse, so we used a bulletin board set horse.  I cut big leaves out of construction paper.  You can see my sweater on the ground for the coats.
After teaching the text, we acted this out 3 times so that each child could be Jesus.  As the kids waved the leaves, they loudly said, "Hosanna!  Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!"
Another class favorite!
